Blazer Button Rules

1. ONLY BUTTON THETOP SUIT BUTTONS

Most suits made today are made to fit correctly to your body with the bottom button undone.

The history behind this rule is that a certain king in the 1900’s was too fat and left the bottom button undone. Since others around him were too afraid of the king they would then do the same and the trend stuck ever since.

Single breasted blazers should never button the bottom button. For single button suits, this obviously wouldn’t apply or you wouldn’t be able to button the blazer at all.

For double buttons blazers, button only the top. And for triple button suits you have the option of the middle only or both the top and middle.

Remember, always unbutton the blazer when sitting unless you want to ruin and stretch the damn thing.

For double breasted suits try and leave the bottom button center undone as well while buttoning the middle. You can leave the suit buttoned when sitting since that is how it’s made to be worn.

There are other variations of suit buttons and extra tips but the above should cover 99% of the questions most men have about buttoning their blazers.

V neck Sweater Dress Shirt Tie

2. ONLY WEAR V-NECK SWEATERSON TOP OF DRESS SHIRTS

For that dress shirt with a swear on top look always go for a V-neck sweater.

The V-neck sweater allows the collars of the dress shirt to pop out more and it looks far better than if you tried to wear a crew neck sweater on top of a dress shirt. The crew neck sweater doesn’t allow the collar of the dress shirt to stand out correctly.

I would recommend against ever doing this with a crew neck sweater since I have never seen it pulled off right but if you can more power to you.

For everyone else, stick with the simple rule, only wear V-neck sweaters with collared shirts.

How To Wear Dress Shoes

3. START WEARINGDRESS SHOES MORE

If you want to step up your shoe game and take your style to another level then stay away from sneakers for anything but the gym and get yourself some leather dress shoes.

Every man should own at least one pair of black and a pair of brown leather dress shoes and keep them shined to get the most out of them.

Any style worn with dress shoes immediately improves the look of the style.

4. MATCH YOUR BELTWITH YOUR SHOES

An easy rule to remember is to try and match the color of your belt with your shoes. Straight and simple.

Brown leather shoes with brown leather belts and so on.

Also, try and stay away from belt buckles that are overly sized as well as any with diamonds or anything stupid like that.

should you wear white socks with dress shoes

5. NO WHITE SOCKSWITH DRESS CLOTHES

This should be a rule you already follow but if for some reason you aren’t aware of this one, NEVER wear white socks with dress clothes. You may think that since you’re wearing pants over it, no one will notice but trust me, once you sit or try and cross your legs you will see.

Once you are outed as having white socks with dress pants, you will lose all respect from your co-workers or business partners. This looks wrong and just should be avoided at all costs.

Leave the white socks for the gym with your sneakers.
